Living Up to The Hype - BabyLoved 02.2017
Here it is, we have finally got round to setting up our BabyLoved Blog! Sharing with you a few details on how we got prepared for our latest event, the brands we selected to work with, and why we chose to work with the wonderful Preston Women's Refuge. The privilege of writing our first blog post comes to you, from me, Helen!
I certainly did not envisage when we started this BabyLoved journey, to be outside Hoghton Village Hall on a cold January morning measuring up outdoor floor space with an extremely short tapemeasure for a marshmallow pink VW camper van to fit in. Neither did I think I would be negotiating moving giant banners at 11.30pm on a wet dark and extremely cold night in my pyjamas. I also did not think I would be individually cutting out heart shaped tissue confetti to fill GIANT helium balloons and later parading them (not discretely) through Bamber Bridge highstreet. I did feel smug, managing to squeeze them into my car as onlookers watched on in disbelief...
I felt 100 times less smug when my toddler Wilfred popped the aforementioned confetti filled balloon the day before the event mind you.
Even Amazon Prime could not come through with the goods for a replacement in time. My only regret with this (aside from the obvious one of - should have made more balloons), WHY did I not have a camera set up to Boomerang film Wilfred popping the balloon and being covered in a full shower of BabyLoved confetti? Huge oversight
We all love our 'barely used' stalls at BabyLoved. Everyone loves finding a gorgeous item for a fraction of its original cost! This time around, we also needed an outlet for things that sellers didn't sell (many of you wanted to donate these to a charity last event and we just did not have the facility to do this). So for this event we linked up with the Safenet Preston Women's Refuge to enable you all (stall holders and attendees) to donate no longer needed items directly to a good cause. We were genuinely blown away with the amount of donations we ended up sending to the Refuge. Two large car loads! Wow! Thankyou. Your donations have gone to help women and children who sometimes flee domestic abuse with no possessions at all so knowing that the refuge have a variety of items and clothing they can hand out makes us feel happy we could help in this small way. Other local businesses also heard what we were doing and chose to work with us in supporting the refuge. Special thanks to Sign Build for donating the super professional sign you will have seen walking up to BabyLoved.
We really put lot of ourselves into BabyLoved, so preparing for an event is a busy busy time. There is a lot of networking, emailing, spreadsheets and meetings, sometimes I really feel like I'm continually emailing whilst building toot toot track at the same time!... but I know it's just for a short while, and after the event, I can go back to my grand designs for the Toot Toots so I plough through, knowing we will all have a great time at the event.
We had built up some really lovely relationships with new local businesses via our social media platforms so it was great to be able to bring in new faces, and new wheels (thankyou Birdie). What I love about our BabyLoved community is how positive everyone is about eachother's work. Our community all support eachother, have formed new friendships and are supporting one another in building their hobbies into local enterprises, and beyond. We select brands to work with based on their quality, individuality and what they can add to the event for YOU! We love a quirky twist so having the added bonus of Birdie Photobooth at the event was an opportunity not to miss for attendees and stall holders alike. We also think that if you're going out to an event, you deserve quality delicious refreshments. I actually do not know anyone who makes coffee as well as our super talented barista (who also trains other baristas) Scott! Before we book in any stall holders, we secure coffee and cake! logical. In future blogs we will be featuring many of our unique, quirky and lovely local brands in much more detail.
And WHAT a time we had! Well over 100 attendees through the door, a raffle filled with generous quality prizes from every single business associated with us. A generous donation of £65 from the raffle to be made to the Women's Refuge, plenty of quality barely used items finding new local homes (at a fraction of their original cost), and a whole host of local independent business and services benefiting from linking up with local buyers. We were buzzing from the whole thing, and the caffeine!
SO, if you're a local parent reading this (or awaiting the arrival of a wee baby), come along to our next event where you will find a fabulous mix of quality barely used items from fellow local parents, unique gifts, hand crafted items, information of activities in your local area , a whole host of glitter, (and confetti too if Wilf stays away from any future giant balloons), amazing coffee and delicious cakes. AND best of all super friendly lovely welcoming people just like you! Keep a look out on our facebook for our next event date to be announced. Hx
